Q: What is calligraphy?

A:  Calligraphy is the ancient art of elegantly curved and curley handwriting.  The word calligraphy is derived from Greek, "kalli" meaning beautiful and "graphia" meaning writing.

Q: How long have you been doing calligraphy?

A:  Bob Goodwin, the master calligrapher and owner of the studio has been doing calligraphy by hand for over 35 years.

Q: How much do you charge for calligraphy?

A:  Our costs vary depending on the services you are looking for.  Please visit our Price List page for more information.

Q: What is your turn around time?

A:  Our turn around time varies depending on the project.  For example, envelope addressing takes 1 week per 100 sets (inner and outer envelope), a seating scroll takes 1 week once we have a complete guest list.

Q: Can you do calligraphy in colored inks?

A:  Yes, we can match just about any color you want including silver and gold.

Q: Do you offer computerized calligraphy?

A:  Yes, we offer both hand and computerized calligraphy.

Q: Can you match the font on my invitation to the envelopes?

A:  In most cases we are able to match the font on your invitation.   If not we have many different font styles to choose from.

Q: How far in advance should I mail my invitations?

A:  Invitations should be mailed 6-8 weeks prior to your wedding day to allow your guests ample time to plan for your special day and make travel arrangements.  It also lets you set the RSVP date earlier to give you more time to make your seating chart.

Q: Do I need a return address on my invitation envelopes?

A:  Although it is not required it is a good idea in case a guests address is incorrect.

Q: Can I send 1 invitation to an entire family?

A:  Although you can send 1 invitation to an entire family, etiquette states that anyone over the age of 18 should receive their own invitation.

Q: Do I need a separate reception card if the ceremony and reception are at the same place?

A:  A separate reception card is not necessary.  Simply add the line "Reception to follow" at the bottom of your invitation.

Q: Is it OK to use labels on our envelopes?

A:  NEVER, NEVER, NEVER.  Not only does this look tacky, but it tells your guests that you did not have enough time or courtesy to personalize your envelopes.

Q: What is the proper way to address envelopes?

A:  Whether you have us address your envelopes or if you address them yourself there is a proper way that should be followed.  View our Addressing Etiquette page for a list of proper formats.

Q: I've heard that I can invite the President, is this true?

A:  Yes it is true, although it is highly unlikely that he will attend you will receive a keepsake signed card from the President and the first lady.  The address is:

The President and Mrs. Bush
The White House
Greetings Office, Room 39
1600 Pennsylvania Avenue NW
Washington, DC 20502

Q: Why do I need Save the Date invitations?

A:  Although they are not necessary, they inform guests of the upcoming wedding date and give them ample time to make travel and hotel accomodations.  They are especially helpful if your wedding date falls on a holiday weekend or busy season (ex. Martha's Vineyard during the summer months).

Q: When should I mail my Save the Date invitations?

A:  Etiquette states that you should mail Save the Date invitations out 4-6 months prior to your wedding day, however you may mail these upto 1 year proir to your special day.

Q: What information should I include with my Save the Date invitations?

A:  You should include atleast the following:

vWho is getting married
vThe location of the wedding ceremony and/or reception (city and state)
vThe date of the wedding
vIf possible - hotel accomodation information for guests from out of town
vAny planned events if occuring during a full weekend
